Athena Minerva is an educational organisation dedicated to working towards Sustainable Development Goals #4 and #5, Gender Equality and Quality Education.
We teach debating and public speaking skills to years 7-9 in Victorian secondary schools and clubs.
Athena Minerva is currently working with the Youth United Nations Australia through the Youth Advocacy Program.
Our organisation looks up to the Grecian symbols of wisdom, logic, and intellectual debate, the revered Goddess Athena, and her Roman equivalent of the Goddess Minerva. We believe this also respects and presents our company's roots in cross-cultural education, diplomacy, and personal development.
We continue to use Athena’s and Minerva’s affiliated symbolisms out of admiration, such as Athena’s Athene Noctua, ‘little owl’, which represents intellectual pursuits and the olive branch used as a symbol of the enduring human desire for peace on earth.
Our motto of '“Contraversia, ratio, pax!”, “Debate, judgement, peace!”, comes from our shared belief in respectful and logical debate as a necessary precursor for procuring peace between peoples, and to a rich, healthy democracy in Australia. This also reflects the chronological nature of an Australasian 3v3 debate whereby teams share issues and clashing arguments, they listen to the judgement of an adjudicator after a period of discourse, ending the controversy for all.
Athena Minerva is a start-up organisation and is currently working to roll out its programs in phases with ample time for troubleshooting and perfecting our curriculum.
We are about to enter the beta testing phase of our 3v3 team debate program.
Our programs are intended for anywhere from a complete beginner towards competitive students.
Our curriculum is designed to be delivered through ongoing and long-term commitments to schools, students, and associations. This is so that we can guide students in a gradual manner to slowly build skills and confidence through expert tuition.
